[...] Schmidt seems to have decided to show some romantic colours. He impresses with an interpretation that includes an extraordinary variety of spirits. That makes his Bach risky and likeable at the same time... But this experimenting never loses any balance, and it never causes a lack of baroque style, which wants to be beside its opulence always full of purity. Rarely Bach has been played so crystal clear and eruptive at the same time. The Bach-Arrangements are of penetrating lucency and Franck is surprisingly introvert since Schmidt‘s playing is always loaded with thoughtfulness and melancholy there [...]
