Pianist with depth – Finally a real pianist again!

Neither another prodigy with too much hair-gel nor a circus horse... Instead, David Theodor Schmidt, ... is a deeply thoughtful, philosophical magician of sound. When listening to his new album containing works by Brahms, Schubert and Mendelssohn, one only needs to hear the theme of the ‘Variations serieuses’ to notice immediately: this is a pianist who doesn’t get stuck with superficial matters but gets to the true core of the music. In the course of the work, Schmidt nevertheless is also capable of driving the piece forward with superior virtuosity... Schmidt also recorded Schubert’s late piano pieces D 946 and the Brahms cycle op. 118 here – everything is played with a high culture and great creativity. What a pianist!
