Review: David Theodor Schmidt Klavier

Artistic Quality: 9 out of 10
Sound Quality: 8 out of 10
Overall impression: 8 out of 10

[...] Schmidt knows – with a good instinct but certainly also as the result of reflection – to give each element in the English Suite in D Minor its own rhythm, its dance character and its sound. He carefully avoids exaggerations in tempo, diction and emotion but always attracts the listener‘s attention. That means he convinces the listeners, and makes them take his side without any violence. His interpretation of Franck convinces with its fascinating, carefully differentiated piano playing. Together with lovingly played arrangements it seems to me that this edition is one of the most important acoustical exclamation marks of recent months.
Schmidt: A name to keep an eye on.
